ORBICOM 2026 Annual International Conference
About the conference
The ORBICOM 2026 Annual International Conference will be held from October 27 to 30, 2026 at the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM), in Quebec, Canada, around the theme: "Media, Artificial Intelligence and Democracy: Communicational Imaginaries in a Fragmented Digital World".
Organised by the UNESCO Chair in Communication and Technologies for Development (CUCTD) and the ORBICOM network, it will bring together researchers, teacher-researchers, doctoral students, professionals and institutional actors around the major changes that are currently affecting the media, digital technologies, artificial intelligence and contemporary democracies.
Conceived as a space for critical, interdisciplinary and international dialogue, the conference aims to examine the effects of disinformation, the fragmentation of digital public spaces, the rise of platforms and the transformations of journalism on the circulation of information, citizen participation and democratic imaginaries.
Through its various thematic axes, it aims to nourish scientific reflection while bringing forth concrete perspectives for a more democratic, inclusive and responsible digital future.
